Internet terrorism 

Internet terrorism is planned disruptive activity against computers and/or networks. It is used for social, ideological, religious, political or similar purposes. Internet terrorists use various technologies, such as viruses, worms, spyware, malware, parasiteware, stealthware, etc. Commonly, hackers performs Internet attacks. Because of spam, worms, malware, adware and hackers, Internet security might become so tight that nothing will get through, not even the good data.

Internet terrorism is not so dangerous physically, but much more to infrastructure of our market, banks, etc. Disruption of the Internet is very harmful for financial corporations, computer infrastructure and for those who work with information. Internet is the biggest storage of valuable information. Billions of dollars would be lost if the Internet was down at least for a day.

More and more business corporations, government, medical institutions and educational institutions rely on Internet and so the threat grows. The main target of hackers now is economy. Disrupted economy disrupts politics. Without economy and politics no country will survive. Panic and anarchy is guaranteed.

Moreover as the security is getting better and better, attackers learn and use more professional methods for attacks. They obtain knowledge from successful and unsuccessful attacks. This is a very troublesome trend.

Internet terrorism is one of the greatest problems along with the real terrorism and crime. Each year more and more money are invested into the security of technological infrastructure, and still it's not perfect. Every person that has computer at home with Internet knows what is a virus, because almost everyone had it. Computer system attacks is like common event to some users because in the first half of 2002 there were 180,000 attack on business. And this number increases annually per 60%. Every year there's a doubled number of reported system vulnerabilities and security incidents.

The impact of increasing attacks number is disastrous, but it can be worse. The main aim is to make damage. Billion of dollars and millions of lives can be lost. If Internet attack would try to shut down the electricity for a certain period, people in hospitals would die and many more victims would be the result of the attack. During common Internet attack there could be lost intellectual property, communications, sales, information, etc. After such kind of catastrophe people would loose confidence in financial systems and technologies.

Computers and information (data) security, privacy protection are increasing problems. There's no such a product or program that would protect users from all the threats, besides Internet terrorism is more often used for global result and not for making damage to individual users. So civil are safe in one way. Only global strategy and security development can help to prevent this kind of terrorism.
